Drum Birthing Workshop with Melonie Syrett, Sat 9th May, 9.30-6.30pm
Melonie is a drum maker, drum circle leader and healer of women and children. She was led to the drum in 2012 and has since spent much time listening to the guidance of their sacred beats and hearing their voices and guidance as they come into being.
Have you heard the call of the drum?
Melonie has found that the drum often calls to a person before it is ‘birthed’. There is a sense of ‘wanting’ a drum, perhaps of being introduced to drumming in circle or experiencing drum healing. Some dream of their drums or are given signs over and over from the universe that a drum should be in their lives.
Perhaps this resonates with you.
In this full day workshop we will work in ceremony to craft your drum and beater from the raw materials of hide and hoop.
This will be a sacred birthing space where from mere conception of an idea and hides hide and hoops your drum will gestate – lovingly cut and pieced together by your own hands until you reach the point of birth, bringing form into the world when it didn't exist before.
Once your drum is earthside we will welcome it into the world and journey with it to meet its spirit and hear its wisdom.
Your drum will sound like no other – for this will be the one crafted by your hands.
Please note: We will spend the day mainly working at floor level and with wet hides. Please wear comfy clothing.
'Melonie will be bringing whole hides for you to work with. We will be honouring them, choosing the part that calls us and cutting the drum head and lacing ourselves. She will be bringing horse, stag and reindeer.
Please indicate which hide calls you when you book. Email Melonie to confirm firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are unsure send out a thought to the universe and watch for the signs that come.
You are invited to bring a stick – approximately 30cms long – that will become your beater. Spend time before the workshop in nature and ask the universe to provide. If you have a crystal or item that you wish to bind into the handle please bring this also. Something rounded, 50p to £2 sized and quite flat or something straight and up to 10cms long is perfect. Please also bring a towel to wrap your hide in when you are not working with it and a tote style bag or drum bag to carry your creations home in.
Bring a dish for a shared lunch and your own bottle for water.
The price of this workshop is £250 made payable via www.aho.community website or if you would like to pay a deposit of £100 the remaining £150 can be paid on the day. Contact email@example.com to request this.
Melonie has gained insight and wisdom into how we can all work with the drum in these modern times to bring about individual and collective healing and to gather, inspire and connect communities. Birthing your drum is calling in the new paradigm.
The drum can be a tool for celebration, for sound healing, for shamanic journeying and for supporting the movement of energy. Much shamanic work is accompanied by the drum –it is known as the Shaman’s horse.
